Sci-fi pantomime raises out of this world amount for Cancer Research UK

Back in February we put on a pantomime in aid of Cancer Research UK that won’t easily be forgotten. Take the story of Scrooge, set it in space and throw in a host of famous sci-fi characters and there you have it!

We teamed up with local drama group: The Music Group, and performed at Ashton-On-Mersey United Reformed Church from the 18th-21st of Feb. With 19 onstage cast (and even more on pre-recorded videos played during the show) there were many people involved. Our backstage team were on the ball every night with videos, lighting, sound, special effects, props, scenery and more! Every single person involved was a volunteer: from the brew makers to the set builders.

At the conclusion of the last performance, we had a special guest say a few words: Director of the Manchester Cancer Research Institute – Richard Marais. We were truly honoured!

So how much did the show make?

We raised a fantastic £2,500 profit. £1,500 has been donated to Cancer Research UK. Together with The Music Group we have £1,000 to the venue. The church were so kind and generous to us throughout the almost 12 months of planning and rehearsals! They not only provided free rehearsal space but they allowed us to transform their biggest room into a theatre for a whole week and free of charge! We cannot thank them enough for their help and we hope that the donation will help them further their work in the community.

We like to finish by saying a huge thank you to everyone involved. From the make-up crew to the tech guys, from the audience to the actors: you should be so proud of yourselves. That £1,500 will go to fighting cancer. Cancer we’re coming to get you!

What’s next?

We have an exciting Doggy Walk set for September called the “Woof for Life”! Watch this space as you’ll soon be able to book your dog for our sponsored dog walk! Also in the works is another Masquerade Ball set for the 7th July 2018, save the date. Our next pantomime will be in 2019, the theme of the next one will be released early next year.

Thanks for your support!
